The term “Cannabis” is a catch-all phrase for a family of plants including many different plant species. This includes Cannabis sativa and Cannabis indica, the two commonly used strains for both recreational and medicinal purposes. The sativa species originates from Africa, the Caribbean and South America whereas indica originates from regions within Afghanistan and Pakistan. Cannabis producers can cultivate hybrids and thus create plants with various genetic properties. Hybrids may continue to be genetically crossed to produce unique and desired combinations of compounds. As such, it is important to understand the product you are consuming as each product may produce different effects based on its properties.
